ATA EXAM-PREP WORKSHOP
Designed to help you prepare for success on the ATA certification exam (the next ATA certification exam in Northern California will be offered in San Francisco in September), part one of this workshop is a language-neutral guide to the exam that is useful to all examinees regardless of language combination, while part two is specifically focused on the Spanish>English and English>Spanish combinations.
PART 1 provides a 90-minute overview of the exam, with many tips on how to prepare for it and how to maximize your potential on exam day. Translators working in any language combination should benefit from this part.
Note: To register only for Part 1, please click here.
PART 2 is another 90-minute session for Spanish translators only. In this part, we focus on special translation problems and solutions that are common to the Spanish>English and English>Spanish combinations. Spanish translators will be provided sample texts before the workshop, and individualized feedback will be provided to participants who turn in translations of those texts by the workshop date. Spanish translators will also practice translating a different set of texts during the workshop as part of an exam simulation, followed by a group discussion about that simulation.
This workshop covers a lot of material in a limited amount of time, so it is essential that we start punctually at 1:00 PM. For those attending the entire workshop, a 15-minute break is provided at 2:30 and a shorter 10-minute break is offered at 3:30. For the exam simulation, Spanish translators should bring their own laptops, paper, pens, pencils, dictionaries, etc., but it is not necessary to pack your entire reference collection. One or two good dictionaries should suffice.
