Introduction to Conference Interpreting

While California and some other states, as well as the federal government, do provide certification exams for interpreting in court, there is no such testing process available for conference interpreting, military, diplomacy, medical, pharmaceutical, industrial audits, and many other situations a professional interpreter may be presented with. How do we prove our competence as interpreters without actually being experts in all of these fields?

This workshop will explore some methods and best practices that can be applied to virtually any type of interpreting assignment. In addition, the following topics will be covered:

-          How to prepare for a wide range of topic areas in demand?

-          How to become familiar with industry-specific terms/jargon for any given assignment

-          How to get started as a conference interpreter

-          How to increase work and succeed as a conference interpreter

-          How to work with simultaneous interpreting equipment

-          Pros, cons and realities of video remote interpreting (VRI)

Get ready to perform at the top of your ability.
