This workshop is meant for anyone who already knows the basics of Trados Studio and wants to learn to use it more efficiently. The main topics covered are:

(1) translation memory and file management,
(2) Studio verification tools, and
(3) the use of the SDL OpenExchange applications.

In addition, several “performance-enhancing” tips and tricks will be shown. Participants are also encouraged to submit in advance their own questions and requests for additional topics.

The SDL OpenExchange program includes about 100 applications that extend the functionalities of Trados Studio. These apps cover a wide range of functions, such as  file and memory management and conversion, machine translation, time management, termbases, termbase creation, auto-suggest dictionaries and additional file type definitions. However, many users are not utilizing this additional resource either because they are not aware of it in the first place or because of the extra effort required to search, install, organize and learn to use these extended features. This workshop gives an overview of the types of apps available and provides users with the information they need in order to be able to utilize them in their own work as translators or project managers.

The workshop includes a few hands-on exercises and participants are therefore encouraged to bring their own laptop computers (with Trados Studio installed). Please note, however, that there are only 10 power outlets in the room and if you need to use one of these you should plan to bring an extension cord. The use of power strips is strictly prohibited so the 10 outlets are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Note about Studio versions: The 2014 version of Trados Studio will be used during the workshop demonstrations, and some of the latest OpenExchange apps function only with the 2014 version. However, most of the information provided at this workshop can easily be applied to earlier versions of Trados Studio.
