2:00 p.m.: Self-publishing and e-publishing for translators: why and how
In this interactive session, we'll look why self-publishing and e-publishing are attractive options for translators, and how to self-publish your work in print or electronically. The presentation will provide a practical roadmap for translators who want to publish their own literary translations, glossaries, business books, software manuals and more. We will discuss the pros and cons of doing the publishing legwork yourself versus hiring someone to do it for you, how to select an e-publishing platform, how to distribute and publicize your work and how to price your self-published materials.
Presenter: Corinne McKay, CT, is an ATA-certified French to English translator specializing in international development, legal and non-fiction book translation. Her self-published business guide for translators, "How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator" has sold over 5,000 print and electronic copies and a book-length compilation of entries from her blog "Thoughts on Translation" is forthcoming from Lulu Press. She is the Chair of ATA's Active Membership Review Committee, past Chair of the ATA Public Relations Committee and recently finished a four-year term as the President of the Colorado Translators Association.
3:15 p.m.: Networking
Refreshments will be served at the end of the meeting, and there will be an opportunity for networking. We'd like to thank our sponsor, Blurb, for providing the refreshments for the meeting!
Note: For those who are ATA certified, you will receive 1 CE point for attending the meeting.
